The Sidney Area Chamber of Commerce is looking for participants to take part in this year’s leadership program.

New to the program this year is that leadership class graduates can receive Dawson Community College credits.

“People enrolled and finishing the class can earn Dawson College credits,” Wade VanEvery, Sidney chamber executive director, said. “These are full academic credits.”

After seeing programs in other chambers offer college credits, VanEvery researched the possibility with Dawson Community College.

“Leadership class is a rigorous program, both the participants and employees give up a lot of time,” VanEvery said.

Deadline for applying for the class is Aug. 1. The chamber can be contacted at 433-1916 or schamber@midrivers.com. The chamber’s Web site is www.sidneymt.com.

The program’s syllabus includes: “Sidney Area Leadership is designed to bring together individuals of diverse backgrounds and experiences who have demonstrated talent and commitment for leadership. The program offers these selected individuals a unique opportunity to explore the resources of their community and the impact of social and economic changes on the Sidney area.”

The program will kick off with an icebreaker at Veterans Memorial Park Sept. 10.

Issue Days include orientation/ agriculture on Sept. 17, tourism/ recreation on Oct. 15, government on Nov. 19, education on Jan. 21, 2009, small business on Feb. 18, 2009, health and human services on March 18, 2009, and energy on April 15, 2009.
